Wingless Protection

Published by hatednation at 6:53 am under Offbeat News Edit This

How do you ensure the safety of a very rare and endangered species? Do what Australia does, Hire snipers.

Marksmen from Sydney’s National Parks and Wildlife Service have gotten up in arms literally over recent attacks on endangered penguins. The attacks have been blamed on wild dogs or foxes, but officials say the flightless birds are too precious to risk, and are taking precautions to help ensure their safety.

Sydney’s North Head National Park is believed to be the only breeding grounds for these penguins, and snipers are being posted to patrol the area at night to reduce predator activity. They have also been cameras and traps set in a strong effort to stop the attacks.
